Ammoudi is a small picturesque bay in the north of Santorini, just below Oia. It is not actually a beach, but it is a good spot for swimming in the clear blue water, sunbathing on the rocks and enjoying the sunset and the view to Thirassia island.
If you are a strong swimmer, you can dive off the rocks on the other side of the port, following the path after passing through the restaurants to the cliff with the chapel of Agios Nikolaos.
If you feel hungry, you can have a lunch or dinner in one of the nice restaurants which serve fresh fish by the sea at the small harbor, looking at the colorful fish boats.
Tip
Very nice setting for dinner at sunset time in one of the fish taverns, but not always a good value for money option!
You can access Ammoudi by car, park on the road or in the small parking area and walk for 200m. You can also reach Ammoudi by walking down about 200 steps from Oia. Alternatively there is the traditional way by catching a ride on the back of a donkey.
Ammoudi is a popular place especially in the summer afternoons and the parking space is limited, so it is better to get there early. From Ammoudi you can take a small boat to Thirassia (3 times a day) paying a low price ticket.
