The Akrotiri fortress was named La Ponta and was built around a pre-existing Goulas (tower) which was preserved in a good condition until the earthquake of 1956. It dates back to 1336. The house walls at the perimeter protected the Goulas from external attacks.
Nowadays you can see the remains of the castle and some old houses. The current owner of the goulas has restored it and now hosts an exchibition and workshop about the hand made Greek bagpipe called Tsabouna. You can find more information in www.laponta.gr.
