The currency of Greece is Euro (€). Dollars or other currencies aren’t widely accepted and it would be better to exchange them at a bank or a currency exchange office.
ATMs and currency exchange
In Santorini you can find ATMs and currency exchange facilities at all the main villages. Banks are open Monday-Thursday 08:00-14:30, Friday 08:00-14:00. On Saturday and Sunday the banks are closed.
International credit cards, such as MasterCard and Visa, are accepted at almost every hotel, shop and restaurant. Credit cards may not be accepted by some small shops or taverns, so if you don’t see a sign on the door of the store indicating credit card acceptance, it would be good to ask before you make any purchases.
Travellers’ cheques are not widely accepted so it would be better to exchange them at a currency exchange office or bank and not use them as direct means of payment.
