Imerovigli is a wonderful village on the caldera side, close to Fira, offering tranquility and breathtaking views. It hosts some of the best hotels of the island, carved into the rock with infinity pools at the edge of caldera.
The Skaros fortified settlement on the rock close to Imerovigli used to be the capital of Santorini up to 18th century. Its position allowed a panoramic view of the west coast and offered protection from pirates. The rock is connected to the village through a pathway and access is only possible on foot (approx. 20 minutes). You will also find there the small church of Panagia which is visible from the sea when approaching the island by boat, with the beautiful carved wooden screen.

Imerovigli is declared as a traditional settlement, meaning that special rules and regulations have been enforced regarding building development.
It is a quiet village, where you can find some traditional restaurants and mini markets, but don’t expect a busy nightlife.
You can get to Imerovigli by taking the road from Fira with direction to Oia (3km from Fira). There is also a bus connection to Fira and Oia.
For those who like walking, there is a pathway connecting Imerovigli with Firostefani and Fira.
