Castles

There are five castles in Santorini which were built during Venetian rule (1207-1580) for the protection of the inhabitants from the pirates. The Venetians built fortified castle settlements at Skaros, the capital in those times, as well as Emporio, Pyrgos, Akrotiri and Oia.
