Watching the world famous sunset in Santorini is an unforgettable experience, a kind of an event that happens every day, with crowds heading to Oia early to get the best space at the edge of the cliffs and watch the sun go down to the sea. After the sun is no longer visible, people celebrate by clapping and taking the last pictures of the coloured sky.
The white houses with the blue and red wooden doors and windows, the cave houses, the views to the sea, volcano and Fira, the calmness and unique atmosphere of the place as the sky is slowly coloured orange, will build a memory to bring back home.
If you want to watch the sunset at Oia during high season, make sure that you get there early to find a good spot for photo shooting, as it gets very crowded!
Oia is not the only place to enjoy the sunset. Imerovigli offers also incredible views and if you are lucky enough to be staying in a hotel in this area, you can even watch it from your room or having a drink by the pool.
Fira offers great views to the sea and volcano, but the views to the sunset might be interrupted by the small islands to the west.
Akrotiri is another place to enjoy the sunset, offering also nice views to Santorini coastline.
If you are at Vlychada beach, it is worth staying a bit longer to watch the sunset and see the volcanic rocks coloured by the sun.
A different way to enjoy the sunset is by taking a sunset cruise with a sailing boat, having the opportunity to admire the view both to the volcanic islands and the villages of Oia and Fira.
